Iran: Will Not Yield to 'Excessive Demands' in Nuclear Talks

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the country is ready for “any verification” of its nuclear program but will not yield to “excessive demands” from the United States. This statement comes amid renewed dialogue between Iran and the US, coinciding with the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. Iran wants the talks, which resumed last week in Oman, to focus solely on its nuclear program and to maintain its right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes. The US, on the other hand, seeks to include other issues in the negotiations, such as limiting Iran's ballistic capabilities and ending its support for armed groups hostile to Israel. Ali Shamkhani, an advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, emphasized that Iran's missile capabilities are a “red line” and will not be subject to negotiation. Pezeshkian stressed that Iran does not seek nuclear weapons and is willing to cooperate for peace and stability in the region. He reiterated that the country will not yield to excessive demands. These statements were made during events commemorating the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Tehran, where supporters of the government gathered. Western countries, led by the US, and Israel, a sworn enemy of the Islamic Republic, express concerns about Iran's nuclear program, suspecting that Tehran seeks to acquire a nuclear weapon. Iran categorically denies these accusations. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is responsible for verifying the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program, but access to facilities has been limited.
