Iran: New IRGC Commander Wanted by Interpol

Ahmad Vahidi, one of Iran's most controversial officials, has been appointed as the new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), following the death of his predecessor in an Israeli and American operation. Vahidi has been wanted by Interpol since 2007 for his involvement in bombings in Argentina in the 1990s, including the 1992 attack on the Israeli embassy and the 1994 AMIA Jewish community center bombing. Argentina has designated Iran as a “terrorist state” for the AMIA attack and has renewed its request to Interpol for Vahidi's arrest. Vahidi's appointment is seen as a sign of Iran's determination to support its officials targeted by the West, during a period of heightened tension in the region.
