Iran: Funeral of Ali Khamenei Postponed

The funeral ceremony for Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has been postponed due to ongoing Israeli-American strikes in the country. State television reported that the postponement is due to the expected massive turnout and the need for adequate infrastructure. An initial announcement for the funeral had been made earlier today, with the ceremony scheduled to take place in Tehran in front of Khamenei's body, who died at the age of 86. This would be followed by burial in the holy city of Mashhad. The Iranian capital has been bombed since Saturday by the United States and Israel, targeting military and government infrastructure. Authorities did not directly link the postponement of the funeral to the security situation, but stated that it was due to the need to ensure the smooth conduct of the ceremony for such a large crowd. The postponement came after calls from across the country, taking into account the expected participation of millions of people and the need for appropriate infrastructure. The new date of the funeral will be announced later.
