Investigation Launched into Death of 72-Year-Old at Larnaca General Hospital Following Family Complaint

The OKYPY (State Health Services Organisation) has announced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 72-year-old woman at Larnaca General Hospital, following a complaint from her relatives. The family accuses the hospital of 'unacceptable conditions of care' which, they claim, led to the woman's death. According to the complaint, the woman was admitted to the Accident and Emergency Department, where she was diagnosed with sepsis five hours later. She was admitted to the Infectious Diseases Unit but passed away in the early hours of the next day. The relatives report that the hospital was in a chaotic state due to a previous incident involving shootings, resulting in other patients not receiving the necessary care. Furthermore, the relatives claim that when they arrived at the hospital after the woman's death, they found a sealed bottle of water next to her, indicating a lack of basic care. They also accuse staff of not administering her prescribed medication. This complaint follows other citizen claims regarding the Larnaca General Hospital, such as the case of 42-year-old Georgia Christofi and the report of the sterilisation oven not functioning for almost a year, resulting in surgical instruments being transported to another hospital.
