Increase in Domestic Violence Reports in 2025, According to Police

The Cyprus Police recorded an increase in domestic violence reports in 2025. Since July 2025, 244 users have registered for the digital panic button application, and 14 individuals have used it to call the Police. Evi Nikolaou, Head of the Vulnerable Persons Case Management Sub-Directorate and the Family Violence and Child Abuse Unit, expressed satisfaction with the increase in reports, considering it an indication of public trust in the authorities. The average number of reports from 2021 is around 3000 per year, but 2025 saw an increase, without exceeding 4000. The Police are working closely with the Social Welfare Services, the SPAVO (shelters for victims), and the Women's House in Nicosia to provide comprehensive support to victims. The panic button application has been primarily used by individuals who have already filed a report, and efforts are being made to inform the public about the possibility of using it in situations of immediate danger.
