High Prices and Reduced Bookings for Eid al-Fitr in Occupied Territories

Increased prices for products and reduced hotel bookings mark the start of Eid al-Fitr in the occupied territories. Price increases mainly affect fresh produce and fruits, while low hotel occupancy is due to the ongoing war in the region and global uncertainties. The Turkish Cypriot Hoteliers Association (KITOB) announced that the tourism sector is experiencing one of its most difficult periods in history, with a large wave of cancellations. Occupancy rates have decreased significantly compared to previous holidays, reaching as low as 5% in some cases. The price increases have also affected residents, who are struggling to buy the necessities for the festive table. Shoppers at the Kyrenia market complained that prices are prohibitive. The situation has caused concern in the tourism sector, which urgently calls for an action plan to revitalize tourism.
