Halloumi Safe for Consumption – Authorities Reassure Public

Livestock units remain on full alert and in constant contact with veterinary services to ensure the immediate control and prevention of the spread of foot-and-mouth disease. The general director of the Pan-Cypriot Cattle Breeders Organization, Nikos Papakyriakou, assured that all necessary protective measures have been taken. He emphasized that halloumi remains safe for consumption, as the boiling process during its production, according to European Union regulations, guarantees the suitability of the product. The executive secretary of the Cheese Makers Association, Michalis Koulouros, stated that there is no issue of an embargo on halloumi exports, as countries such as the United Kingdom and Canada accept the scientific data for the second boiling. The authorities are reassuring the public that all necessary measures have been taken to protect public health and ensure the quality of halloumi. At the same time, vaccinations have begun in collaboration with private veterinarians.
