Gulf countries: "Existential threat" from Iranian strikes

Gulf countries described Iranian strikes as an "existential threat" to regional and international security before the UN Human Rights Council. These countries condemned Iran's actions, emphasizing that they undermine international law and their sovereignty, following the US-Israeli strikes on Iran. Iran defended its actions, stating that more than 1,500 civilians have been killed by US and Israeli strikes. The Iranian ambassador to the UN, Ali Bahreini, emphasized that Iran is fighting for everyone against an enemy that, if not contained today, will become even more dangerous. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, urged states to end the conflict, describing the situation in the Middle East as extremely dangerous and unpredictable. He warned that attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure must stop and may constitute war crimes. The Human Rights Council will vote on a proposal condemning Iranian strikes and calling for compensation, and will meet again on the safety of children in the conflict, following the bombing of a girls' school in Iran.
