GSI as a Test of Governmental Discipline and a Preview of Coalition Alliances

The cooperation between Nikolas Papadopoulos (DIKO) and Nikos Christodoulides is being challenged due to the GSI (Great Sea Interconnector) project. Mr. Papadopoulos seeks a renegotiation of DIKO's position in decision-making, criticizing the government's lack of political consistency and double-speak regarding the project's viability. He argues that the collapse of the GSI would open the door for Turkey to re-enter the energy game. Makis Keravnos attempted to de-escalate the situation, stating that his position is the government's position, but acknowledging the need to update financial and technical aspects. However, the political conflict remains. At the same time, a second front was created within the government, with the Minister of Labor, Marinos Mousiouttas, accusing Mr. Papadopoulos of tactics and 'survival games', and DIPA expressing reservations about the project. There are also questions about the alignment of the new Minister of Energy, Michalis Damianou, with government positions. Mr. Papadopoulos assured that there is no question of withdrawing from the cooperation, but insisted on the existence of problems with consultation and coordination, which are not limited to the GSI. This suggests a deeper, structural rift in the government coalition.
