Greek Frigates and F-16s to Bolster Cyprus' Air Defense

The deployment of the Greek frigates 'Kimon' and 'Psara', along with two F-16 aircraft to Cyprus, is a response to recent drone attacks and aims to strengthen the island's air defense and anti-drone capabilities. The presence of the 'Psara' frigate, equipped with the Greek-developed electronic warfare system 'Kentavros', combined with the capabilities of the 'Kimon' and the air cover of the F-16s, creates a strong defensive umbrella. The 'Kimon' frigate is the most modern anti-aircraft platform in the Greek fleet, carrying 32 vertical launch cells for Aster 30 missiles and a Sea Fire AESA radar. The 'Psara' has ESSM missiles and a CIWS Phalanx system, but the most important is the 'Kentavros' system, which interferes with drone signals, disrupting their operation without the use of fire. The 'Kentavros' system has already been operationally tested and is an important tool for dealing with unmanned aircraft. Strengthening air defense in Cyprus with these assets is a significant move to protect the island from potential threats, especially in an environment where drone attacks are a growing concern. This cooperation between Greece and Cyprus underscores the importance of mutual defense support and the joint tackling of challenges in the region.
