Greece to Support Cyprus' Defense, Even Alone if Necessary

The Greek Ambassador to Nicosia, Konstantinos Kollias, assured that Greece will support the defense of Cyprus, even if it has to do so alone. This statement was made during a reception for March 25th, where the Ambassador emphasized Greece's steadfast support for Cyprus, as demonstrated during the recent regional crisis. He also referred to the immediate support for the defense of the Republic of Cyprus, following the example of other European partners. Mr. Kollias highlighted the long-standing and close relationship between Greece and Cyprus, based on their shared history, language, religion, and values. This timeless bond, he said, permeates all aspects of the two countries' relations and affects the daily lives of their citizens. Furthermore, the Ambassador mentioned the donation of the Greek Embassy building by the Church of Cyprus as a symbol of the strong relationship between the two countries. He also stressed that Greece and Cyprus, as EU members, cooperate to provide stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean region. In conclusion, Mr. Kollias reiterated Greece's determination to contribute to the reunification of Cyprus, within the framework of UN resolutions, and to the removal of Turkish troops and guarantees from the island, for the benefit of all its inhabitants.
