Grain Producers: Closing Crossing Points Should Be Considered as a 'Drastic' Measure for Foot-and-Mouth Disease

The Pan-Cypriot Grain Producers Organization calls on the state to consider closing crossing points from and to the occupied territories as a drastic measure to combat foot-and-mouth disease. It also requests the intensification of checks along the ceasefire line. The organization expresses its solidarity with farmers affected by the epidemic and believes that the measures taken are in the right direction. However, it calls for their immediate implementation and the provision of psychological and financial support to farmers. The Organization recognizes the importance of livestock farming for the agricultural economy and emphasizes that the consequences of the disease affect the entire agricultural community. It expresses the hope for immediate and effective action by the authorities to limit the spread of the disease. The Organization assures that the agricultural family of Cyprus remains united and will overcome the ordeal with cooperation, responsibility, and solidarity.
