Government: Proactive Measures in Cyprus – US Guidance for Personnel and Repatriation Flights from the UAE

The government is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and has taken proactive measures to protect Cypriot citizens. Following the opening of UAE airspace, the planning of chartered flights for the repatriation of 756 Cypriot citizens, including permanent residents, has begun. A total of four repatriation flights are planned, with priority given to families with young children, the elderly and people facing accommodation problems. The National Crisis Management Centre operates 24/7, while citizens can contact 2280 0000 for urgent matters. At the same time, the US State Department has issued travel guidance allowing non-essential personnel and their families to depart from Cyprus. The Government emphasizes that such guidance is part of consular information and is issued when there is a crisis in an area. Finally, the Government states that the increased security measures in Cyprus are precautionary in nature and that the Republic of Cyprus has not been a target. The presence of foreign military assets is ongoing, as the situation is assessed in cooperation with partners, while civil defence shelters have low occupancy (around 10%).
