Government Interventions for Affordable Housing Focus on Four Pillars, Says Interior Minister

The Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, announced that the government's interventions to address the housing problem are based on four pillars: increasing housing supply, reducing bureaucracy, strengthening investment in the housing sector, and supporting vulnerable groups. The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU is focusing on access to affordable and sustainable housing, particularly for middle-income households and young families. Furthermore, collaboration between the public and private sectors is being promoted through the new Pan-European Investment Platform. 46 applications have already been submitted to take advantage of urban planning incentives, planning for the construction of over 2,500 homes, of which 400 will be affordable. In addition, 24 applications utilize the purchase of a building factor, bringing €12.5 million to the Special Fund for Affordable Housing. The Cyprus Land Development Organization plans to implement 244 housing units for sale and 192 for rent by 2026.
