“Golden” 2025 for Tourism: From Which Country Do Most Tourists Come?

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumis, described 2025 as a very successful year for the tourism industry, citing a new record in arrivals from the German market after 28 years, as well as international awards for Cyprus in tourism. The Deputy Minister explained that Germany has been the largest outbound tourism market in the world for years, and that for Cyprus, Germany was a small market until recently, with the best performance of the German market being 250,000 arrivals in 1997. “This year, we broke the record for the German market for the first time,” he said, adding that “we have a new record after 28 years, and this is a market that is of the utmost interest to us. We have also collaborated with the private sector on a series of initiatives to further increase it in our country.” He also highlighted the improvement in air connectivity from Germany to both Cypriot airports, emphasizing that “the most important thing is that German visitors like to visit different areas of our country.” Furthermore, Cyprus has been recognized at a pan-European level for its tourism development. According to the Aviation Council International report, Cyprus ranks first in improving air connectivity compared to 2024 and second compared to 2019. It also ranks first in revenue growth among Mediterranean countries and in the increase of overnight stays in tourist accommodations. The government and the tourism sector are working together to maintain this upward trend and strengthen Cyprus's competitiveness as a tourist destination.
