Fytiris' Plan for Addressing 'Holes' in the System: Prisons, Police, Organized Crime

Minister of Justice Kostas Fytiris presented a comprehensive plan to address crime and enhance security in Cyprus. The plan includes measures for prisons, the police, combating organized crime, and protecting critical infrastructure. The Minister stressed the need for a specific plan and methodology in tackling crime, as well as freeing the country from organized crime and corruption. He announced the passage of legislative regulations that will help solve cases. Regarding prisons, Mr. Fytiris announced the creation of a new correctional facility with a capacity of 1500 prisoners, outside the urban area. He also announced the creation of a Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit and a Coast Guard, which will operate independently of the police and protect Cyprus's maritime area. In addition, the need to modernize the Fire Service and prepare for the fire season was mentioned. The Minister of Justice pledged to improve the working conditions of police officers, firefighters and prison officers.
