Fuel Prices See Highest Increases in Three Years in Cyprus

Cyprus experienced the largest increase in fuel prices in the last three years, with increases reaching 20.3 cents per liter for gasoline, 35 cents for diesel, and 28 cents for heating oil. The President of the Cyprus Consumer Association (CCA), Marios Drousiotis, stated that these increases were recorded within one day, on Thursday, March 26th. Simultaneously, small increases (0.5%, 1%, 1.5%) were observed in essential goods, which however do not appear to be due to the war in the Middle East. Mr. Drousiotis predicted that potential increases in essential goods may occur in May. He also mentioned that the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) have increased, following the trend of fuel prices, with a 10kg cylinder rising from €18.5 to €24.5-25. The President of the Republic announced a reduction in the special consumption tax on fuels, which will take effect on April 1st and will amount to 8.3 cents per liter for gasoline and diesel and 6.2 cents per liter for heating oil.
