MEP Lucas Fourlas, during the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on the occasion of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, emphasized the paramount importance of Cyprus. He pledged to work for the success of the Cypriot Presidency, which is being undertaken at a critical time for Europe, while also expressing his belief that Cyprus can rise to the challenges and play a significant role as a bridge between Europe and the Middle East. Mr. Fourlas stressed that the right of veto is non-negotiable, while reiterating that Cyprus remains under occupation for almost 52 years, despite the European principles and values that should be applied everywhere. He expressed his pride in Cyprus taking over the Presidency, stating that for Cypriot MEPs, Cyprus is the top priority. In his speech, the MEP appealed to all his European colleagues for cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus. He also asked the President of the Republic to safeguard European principles and values, even in cases where they have not been applied to Cyprus.
