Former Community Leader Arrested for Alleged Land Sale Fraud

A 66-year-old former community leader in Limassol has been arrested following a complaint of fraud against a couple. The suspect is accused of receiving €32,000 from the couple for the alleged transfer of a Turkish Cypriot land plot, which he was legally prohibited from selling. The case involves offenses such as fraudulent transactions, obtaining money through false pretenses, and money laundering. According to the complaint, the suspect initially granted the couple part of the plot for use, and later, during his tenure as community leader, offered it for sale. Despite the couple paying the agreed amount, the transfer did not materialize, and their application was rejected by the Turkish Cypriot Property Management Service, as the lessee does not have the right to sell such plots. The police are investigating the case and have already taken statements.
