Foot-and-Mouth Vaccination Begins in Geri Livestock Zone

Vaccinations against foot-and-mouth disease have begun in the Geri livestock zone, following the detection of cases on a farm in the area. Geri Deputy Mayor Neofytos Papalazarou stated that no other cases have been diagnosed beyond the four identified on the farm, which houses 200 cattle. Authorities are providing farmers with water and medicine, while disinfection of vehicles entering the area is being carried out. Additionally, a new case of foot-and-mouth disease has been detected in Dromolaxia, in a unit with sheep and goats. The issue has been raised in the Bicommunal Committee, with the Greek Cypriot side requesting that Turkish Cypriots comply with EU legislation. In Geri, access to the livestock zone has been limited to one entrance for control purposes. Farmers in the area are in a state of unrest and have formed a committee to claim their rights.
