Foot-and-Mouth Disease: Vaccination Begins - What About Meat Consumption?

Vaccinations of animals against foot-and-mouth disease began today in Aradippou, as announced by the Ministry of Agriculture. Cattle breeders were informed that meat consumption will continue as normal after vaccination and that vaccinated animals will not be slaughtered. Only the 260 animals already diagnosed with the virus will be euthanized. Simultaneously, the Larnaca Police are investigating the spread of the virus, which has affected 11 livestock units in various areas. The investigation includes taking statements from farmers, veterinarians, and other animal health professionals, as well as laboratory tests and monitoring the supply of animal feed. The case initially started at the Oroklini Police Station, but due to the extent of the spread, the investigation was transferred to the Larnaca TAE.
