Foot-and-Mouth Disease Spreads: New Cases Detected in Nicosia

New cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been detected in two livestock units in Nicosia, a sheep and goat farm in Dali and a cattle farm in Geri, raising alarm among authorities. The spread of the disease appears to have spread beyond the initial areas of Larnaca, overturning the initial containment plan. Response protocols have already been activated and the affected areas have been placed on alert. The situation is expected to be discussed at the Council of Ministers, along with the reactions of farmers to the forced culling of their animals. The new development creates additional concern and makes the need for immediate and effective disease control even more urgent, as well as the implementation of strict prevention measures to prevent further spread. The government is called upon to take all necessary measures to protect livestock and the economy.
