Five Suspects Held in Larnaca Drug Case

Five suspects in a major drug case in Larnaca have been remanded in eight-day custody following a court decision. The arrests were made by the YKAN on Saturday. The men, aged 19 to 39, face charges of conspiracy, illegal procurement and possession of controlled drugs, as well as offenses related to money laundering and participation in a criminal organization. One of the suspects is also charged with possession of a firearm. Police have launched separate criminal investigations against the other four detainees and do not rule out further arrests in the future. Police are searching for the drug supplier as well as the final recipients. The investigating officer stressed that the release of the suspects could negatively affect the investigation as there is a risk of influencing witnesses or destroying evidence. The court justifies its decision to detain the five suspects by citing the existence of evidence, the connection of the suspects to the offenses, and the need to complete the investigation. Additionally, it emphasizes the risk of the suspects fleeing Cyprus or to the occupied territories.
