Five Defendants to Stand Trial for Larnaca Incident

Five individuals have been referred to a direct trial before the Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court in connection with a brawl and shooting that occurred in the center of Larnaca on the afternoon of Saturday, January 17th. The defendants, aged 20, 26 (two individuals), 32, and 48, appeared at the Larnaca District Court under strict security measures. The trial is scheduled to begin on March 16th at 8:45 AM. The defendants' lawyers opposed the police's request to keep them in custody until the trial date. The court is expected to announce its decision on the custody request tomorrow. In addition to the five defendants, three more individuals, aged 26, 27, and 35, are wanted in connection with the case. The charges against the five include conspiracy to commit a felony, illegal possession and transport of a firearm, illegal possession of explosives, extortion, demanding property under threats, participation in a criminal organization, and assault causing bodily harm. The two older defendants (48 and 26 years old) face additional charges of assault.
