Five Cypriot Villages Officially Twin: The Significance of 'Prastio'

A twinning event was held for the five communities named Prastio: Limassol, Kellaki, Famagusta, Paphos, and Morphou. The twinning highlights the strength of common ancestry and cultural continuity, as the name 'Prastio' is a living link connecting people and traditions. Each Prastio has its own history, including the harmonious coexistence of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots in Prastio Avdimou until 1974, while Prastio Paphos was inhabited only by Turkish Cypriots. Special mention was made of the communities of Famagusta and Morphou, which have remained under occupation for 52 years. The twinning marks the beginning of a new path of cooperation in the fields of culture, education, and the promotion of local traditions.
