Five Cypriot Villages Named Prastio to Become Sister Communities

Five communities in Cyprus named Prastio are set to become sister communities in an event scheduled for Sunday, March 22, 2026. The event will include the signing of a memorandum of cooperation, presentations by the community leaders, and an artistic program featuring Cypriot dances. The twinning aims to preserve the cultural heritage of the Prastios and promote joint actions for resolving the Cyprus issue. Four of the five villages were affected by the events of 1964 and 1974, with the residents of Ammochostos and Morphou becoming refugees. The name "Prastio" originates from the word "suburb," and these villages hold the record for the largest number of villages with the same name in Cyprus.
