Eurostat: Significant Improvement in Cyprus' Energy Intensity - 23.2% Reduction in the Last Decade

According to Eurostat data, Cyprus' energy intensity of gross value added decreased by 23.2% during the period 2014-2023. In 2023, the EU's net domestic energy consumption fell by 4.1% compared to 2022, with businesses and governments consuming 72.3% of the energy for productive activities and households consuming the remaining 27.7%. Manufacturing accounted for the largest share of energy consumption (25.5%), followed by the supply of electricity, natural gas, steam and air conditioning (17.9%) and transport and storage (12.3%). The largest decrease in energy consumption in 2023 was recorded in the energy supply sector (-8.7%), while transport was the only activity that saw an increase (+8.1%). Cyprus recorded one of the largest reductions in energy intensity in the EU, along with Estonia and Ireland.
