The European Union Council approved the signing of the EU-Mercosur Partnership Agreement and the Interim Trade Agreement, a move hailed as a “historic milestone” by President Nikos Christodoulides. The agreement, the largest trade deal ever negotiated by the EU, provides for the protection of 344 food and beverage products from imitations, including 21 Greek products. It also includes a safeguard clause to address sudden import surges and sets limits on imports of agri-food products from Mercosur. The official signing is expected this weekend in Paraguay, while the agreement's implementation depends on the approval of the European Parliament. Simultaneously, the European Commission announced the mobilization of €45 billion for the primary sector.
