Escalation in the Middle East: Israel Eyes Elimination of Khamenei's Successor

Tensions in the Middle East are escalating rapidly, as the coordinated US-Israeli attack on Iran continues. Attacks and retaliations are being recorded in many countries of the region, with civilian casualties, such as the 11-year-old killed in Kuwait. Military and diplomatic facilities have been targeted. In Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei was elected as the new Supreme Leader, succeeding his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a development reportedly made under pressure from the Revolutionary Guards. Several countries are taking steps to prevent escalation of the crisis. Spain states it will not participate in war, while the Iranian Foreign Minister accuses Trump of betraying diplomacy. Israel has arrested four people for supporting Iran. Additionally, it is reported that the airspace of Cyprus has not been closed, but two flights were asked to remain on standby, with one returning to Athens and the other landing normally. Britain and France are sending additional military aid to the region.
