Engineers Raise Concerns Over Construction Site Accident: "Every Worker Should Return Home Safe"

The Association of Civil Engineers of Cyprus (SPOLEMIK) expressed concern regarding an accident that occurred on a construction site in Limassol on March 23rd, where a section of the 3rd-floor roof formwork collapsed during concrete pouring. Preliminary assessment suggests the accident may have been due to inadequate design or support of the formwork. SPOLEMIK emphasized the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in ensuring safety on construction sites, highlighting the importance of proper formwork study and design, adherence to specifications during installation and support, supervision by qualified personnel, and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health legislation. The Association called for the creation of an environment where every worker can work safely and return to their family healthy. The Department of Labour Inspection is investigating the exact causes of the incident.
