Empty Promises for Akamas: Compensatory Measures Decided Two and a Half Years Ago on Hold

Two and a half years have passed since the approval of 11 compensatory measures for the Akamas region, but they have not been fully implemented. The aim of the measures was to strengthen the local economy and create sustainable development prospects. However, according to representatives of local authorities, significant delays are observed in the implementation of projects such as the craft zone in Ineia, the livestock area in Neo Chorio, and road construction. The only measure fully implemented is the subsidy to landowners of agricultural land, while the Akamas Local Coordinating Office is also operating, but is in its initial stages. Local authorities express satisfaction with communication with the office coordinator, but point out that the implementation of the measures depends on the competent government departments. In addition, the request for the appointment of a commissioner in the area was not satisfied.
