Emmanuel Gregoire Elected New Mayor of Paris - Arrived at City Hall by Bicycle

Emmanuel Gregoire has been elected the new mayor of Paris, winning the municipal elections with 50-53% of the vote against Rachida Dati. His victory confirms the strong presence of the left in Paris and marks the continuation of socialist governance for the next six years. Gregoire immediately demonstrated his environmental profile by cycling to city hall, following the example of his predecessor, Anne Hidalgo. At the same time, the left retained control of Marseille, with Benoit Payan expected to be re-elected with 53-55.2% of the vote. In Le Havre, former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe was re-elected mayor with 47%. The National Rally suffered defeats in key cities, such as Toulon, where its candidate, Lor Lavalle, was defeated by Jose Massi. However, it managed to win Nice with Eric Ciotti. Gregoire stated that Paris will be "the heart of resistance" against the alliance of the right and far-right, describing the elections as a "taste" of the national political battle expected in 2027.
