Electricians Hiding Pools from Inspections, Endangering Lives

There is a serious problem with electricians “hiding” swimming pools from electrical installation inspections, putting human lives at risk. This was stated by the president of the Electricians, Giorgos Kyriakou, before the Parliamentary Committee on Interior. This practice is done to avoid checking the installations that are necessary for the safe operation of swimming pools. Mr. Kyriakou stated that owners install mechanisms that do not meet safety standards and electricians agree not to report them during inspections. In addition, the installations of swimming pools are removed from the plans so that they are not checked by the Electricity Authority. This practice is particularly worrying, as it endangers the owners and users of swimming pools. The discussion in the Interior Committee concerned regulations for the mandatory supervision of electromechanical installations in new and renovated buildings. The institutionalization of mandatory supervision is considered an important development for safety and the efficient use of installations.
