Dynamic Return of Cypriot Art to the Market Shown by Cypria Auction Results

The Cypriot art of the 20th century confirms its timeless dynamism in the market, as demonstrated by the "20th Century Cypriot Art" auction of Cypria Auctions, which took place on March 19th in Nicosia. The auction attracted strong interest from Cypriot and international collectors, with strong sales in both top works and more affordable categories. The strongest results were recorded for works by Pol Georgiou, with "The Boat" selling for €43,897 and "Cypriot Archaic Idol" reaching €15,050. A new auction record was also set for Andreas Charalambides, with "Young Lady with a Bouquet" selling for €20,067. Works by Stas Paraskos and Giorgos Skoteinos also performed well, while strong activity was recorded in works by Xanthos Chatzisoteris, Lefteris Oikonomou, Kaiti Stefanidou, Giorgos Kyriacou, Stelios Votsis, Andreas Karagian, Andreas Charalambous, Glyn Hughes, Tasos Stefanidis, Andreas Asproftas, John Corbidge, and Dimitris Michlis. In addition, there was demand for rare editions, such as the 1772 edition of Giovanni Mariti on Commandaria (€6,071) and "Travels of Ali Bey" by Ali Bey El-Abbassi (1816) (€4,856). The auction results highlight a market that remains active and multi-layered.
