Drone Incident Linked to Fuel Price Hike – Consumer Association Demands 10 Measures

The Consumer Association is calling for immediate measures to address the rising prices of fuel and food, linking the latest surge in price increases to the drone crash in Akrotiri. It proposes ten measures, including reducing VAT on electricity and abolishing it on pollutants, preventing increases in lending rates, suspending emergency taxes, tiered subsidies for electricity costs, a drastic reduction in excise duties on fuel, subsidies for fuel and basic necessities, taxation of excess profits of renewable energy companies and fuel importers, setting a profit margin cap, and criminalizing profiteering. The Association argues that fuel price increases began after the drone crash and draws parallels with the period following the start of the war in Ukraine, expressing a lack of confidence in political interventions.
