Doctors and Pharmacists Unable to Process Prescriptions Due to System Issues - OAY Response

The Organization of Health Security (OAY) patient electronic system has been experiencing significant issues in recent months, leading to delays in issuing prescriptions and laboratory tests. Doctors, such as gastroenterologist Giorgos Dimitriou, report frequent malfunctions, including complete inaccessibility, forcing them to keep handwritten notes for their patients. The OAY, through its IT Director Marios Tziakouris, assures that the problems do not constitute a total system failure but rather sporadic delays linked to specific usage by healthcare professionals. A cyberattack is also ruled out, as well as any connection to previous system issues. The problems appear to be more pronounced on Mondays, without a clear reason. The OAY states that the issues began after the contract renewal with the contractor and the departure of a subcontractor, and are currently under management and testing. Collaboration with the contractor and the Deputy Ministry of Digital Policy is underway to resolve the issue, with an estimated completion date for a definitive solution and system stabilization by May 2026. The OAY emphasizes efforts to minimize the impact on users.
