DISY Warns of Escalating Organized Crime in Cyprus

The Democratic Rally (DISY) has expressed strong concern over the growing threat of organized crime in Cyprus, emphasizing that it has surpassed the limits of a marginal phenomenon. The party points out that organized crime has evolved in recent years, with easier money laundering and exploitation of state weaknesses. The lack of a cohesive strategy has allowed criminal organizations to gain influence and undermine citizens' sense of security. DISY calls for immediate action and the adoption of a comprehensive government strategy to combat organized crime and restore safety. It proposes the use of modern tools and international cooperation, as well as the reorganization of the Police to provide the necessary resources and establish a special department to deal with these crimes. The party emphasizes the need for political will and determination to address the problem, warning of the risk of consolidating an unacceptable situation. Failure to act quickly and effectively could lead to further strengthening of organized crime and negative consequences for society. DISY highlights that tackling organized crime requires a holistic approach that includes prevention, repression, and rehabilitation. Cooperation between various state agencies and the involvement of civil society are also essential for achieving sustainable results.
