Disinfection Tanks for Foot-and-Mouth Disease Prevention in Paralimni-Deryneia

The Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia is proceeding with the construction of wheel disinfection tanks (wheel washes) in three livestock zones as a measure to protect against foot-and-mouth disease. The tanks will be built in the Municipal Districts of Frenaros, Deryneia and Acheiritis, with the aim of protecting livestock farmers and the local production. In the Frenaros area, access roads have already been cut off, except for the two points where the tanks are being built, for strict access control. Mayor Giorgos Nikolettos stressed that the Municipality stands by the livestock farmers and is taking initiatives beyond the state guidelines. He expressed the view that the measures taken at the central level are insufficient and emphasized the need for more coordinated and substantial support from the state. The Municipality remains in constant communication with the competent services and calls on livestock farmers to strictly adhere to biosecurity measures. This move is a practical demonstration of the Municipality's commitment to protecting the primary sector and public health.
