Design of Larnaca Salt Lakes Environmental Center to Begin

The Municipality of Larnaca has successfully completed the architectural competition for the Larnaca Salt Lakes Environmental Center. The first prize and the design contract were awarded to a team of five architects: Haris Aristodimou, Konstantinos Kelpis, Marios Kyriakou, Louis Loizou, and Giorgis Tsangaris. The Municipality will also award second and third prizes, as well as two commendations and an honorable mention. With the signing of the contract, the preparation of the architectural design will begin. Although the completion of the project is now expected in 2027, the start of the design marks a significant step towards highlighting the most important wetland in Cyprus. The center will be built on two state plots in the former leprosy sanatorium area, with a total area of 41,227 sq.m. The building will include shops, offices, projection and training rooms, exhibition spaces, a laboratory, a library, a cafe and other support spaces. In addition, outdoor spaces will be created for educational and recreational purposes, as well as a bird watching area and the Salt Lake Park, which will serve as a main access to the Salt Lake trail.
