Defense Committee Approves State-Funded Insurance and Compensation for National Guard

The Parliamentary Defense Committee approved regulatory arrangements concerning the insurance of National Guard members participating in dangerous missions. According to the new regulations, personnel involved in such missions will have state-funded insurance, which will cover their families in the event of death or permanent disability while performing their duties. The compensation received by the family will be tax-free. These arrangements are part of a broader effort to secure the professional rights of National Guard personnel. The Defense Committee also discussed the possibility of deploying troops to other countries, a matter that has been ongoing since 2024. The Committee's President, Marinos Sizopoulos, stated that the approval of the regulations was achieved through close cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff of the National Guard, and the Legal Service. The goal is to gradually extend insurance coverage to all professional members of the National Guard.
