Decision on Self-Consumption Plans Criticized

Christos Tsigkis expresses strong opposition to the Ministry of Energy's decision to halt self-consumption plans for electricity, without prior consultation. He believes the decision, based on a regulatory decision by RAEK, is wrong and unfair to citizens and businesses benefiting from net metering and virtual plans. The author argues that self-consumption systems should be excluded from the Competitive Electricity Market (CEM), as they operate to the benefit of citizens and businesses. He also criticizes the delays in issuing connection terms, scheduling inspections, and approving applications for renewable energy systems. Tsigkis points out that the lack of transparency and the absence of an electronic registry of applications create problems and unjustified delays. He emphasizes that the state has created a problematic electricity system and that current authorities are maintaining it, rather than improving it. Finally, the author distinguishes between the case of general category A1 net metering systems, which may need to stop being subsidized due to rapid amortization, and the case of self-consumption systems for a typical household, which should continue to operate with a framework for protecting citizens.
