DBRS Maintains ESM's 'AAA' Credit Rating

The international rating agency DBRS Ratings GmbH (Morningstar DBRS) has confirmed the European Stability Mechanism's (ESM) long-term credit rating at 'AAA' and the short-term rating at R-1 (high), with a stable outlook. The agency states that the ESM is resilient to downside risks due to its very high capitalisation, effective funding and liquidity, and strong management. It also highlights the ESM's important role in Europe's financial architecture, as well as the upcoming accession of Bulgaria and the expansion of its role to the Single Resolution Fund of the European Banking Union. The ESM's loan portfolio is currently concentrated in Greece, Spain and Cyprus.
