Published December 28, 2025, 19:16

The end of 2025 is expected to bring harsh winter weather to Cyprus. A significant deterioration is anticipated from Tuesday evening onwards, with rain, thunderstorms, hail, and snow in the mountains. Winds will strengthen considerably, especially on Wednesday, with the possibility of warnings being issued by the Meteorological Department. Temperatures will remain low for the season, with a maximum of 5-6 degrees Celsius in the mountains tomorrow. The rains are expected to be beneficial for the dams, with the Mavrokolypos dam beginning to fill after repairs. The hope is that the situation will improve in the other dams to address the water problem. Meteorologist Andreas Chrysanthou warned of intense phenomena and the possibility of hail in thunderstorms, as well as snow in the mountains. The situation is expected to be particularly severe on New Year's Eve. Overall, Cyprus is preparing for a wet and cold end of the year, with authorities closely monitoring the weather developments and preparing for potential needs.
