Cyprus Stock Exchange Suffers Significant Weekly Losses Amid Middle East Tensions

The Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) experienced significant losses on Friday, with the General Index falling by 2.06% to close at 272.78 points. Weekly losses amounted to 5.8%. The FTSE/CySE 20 index also declined by 2.40%, closing at 164.77 points, while turnover reached €214,648. All indices, except for the Hotels index which remained unchanged, recorded a decline. The largest drop was observed in the Main Market index (-2.48%), followed by the Investment Companies index (-2.40%) and the Alternative Market index (-0.56%). The shares of Bank of Cyprus attracted the most investor interest, with a turnover of €139,336 and a 2.66% decrease in price, closing at €8.78. They were followed by shares of Demetra Investment, Cyprus Cement Company, Logicom and Vasilikos Cement Works. In total, 2 shares moved upwards, 10 downwards, and 3 remained unchanged, with the number of transactions limited to 113. The decline of the CSE is attributed to developments in the Middle East and increased market uncertainty.
