Cyprus Serves as Repatriation Bridge for Israeli Doctors and Nurses

Cyprus is playing a crucial role in the repatriation operation of Israeli doctors and nurses stranded abroad due to the escalating crisis with Iran and the closure of Israeli airspace. Approximately 1,300 healthcare workers are outside Israel, with 500 deemed essential for the functioning of the healthcare system. Cyprus has activated the first sea route for return, with the first group of 20 people departing from a Cypriot port by cargo ship. The operation is a pilot program, aiming to assess safety and participant endurance, and a second mission with 70 people is planned if successful. Alternative routes through neighboring countries such as Jordan and Egypt are also being considered in case Israeli airspace remains closed.
