Cyprus Secures Immediate Assistance from Allies to Strengthen Defence

Cyprus is securing immediate military assistance from its allies in the European Union, with Greece and France being the first countries to respond to the request to strengthen Cyprus's defensive capabilities. Nicosia chose a targeted approach, addressing specific partners, to ensure a quick response. Greece has already sent two pairs of fighter jets and two frigates, while France is sending a frigate and anti-missile systems. There is also positive feedback from Germany and Italy, although the form of assistance from these countries has not yet been determined. Cyprus's strategy focuses on bilateral contacts at a high level, avoiding the activation of EU Article 42/7 for the time being. President Christodoulides is engaged in a marathon of diplomatic contacts with his counterparts to ensure the necessary assistance.
