Cyprus Receives Requests to Facilitate Evacuation of Citizens from China and Japan

Cyprus has received inquiries from China and Japan regarding the potential use of the Republic as a transit hub for the evacuation of their citizens from countries in the region, due to recent developments. President Christodoulides announced that official requests from the two countries are expected and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has begun registering Cypriot citizens residing in or traveling to the affected areas. The President is also in contact with international leaders, including the President of the European Commission and the Greek Prime Minister, to discuss the situation. Additionally, there are requests for the parking of commercial aircraft in Cyprus, while flights to the region are being canceled. Cyprus reaffirms its readiness to provide humanitarian assistance.
