The archaeological community and the Cyprus Institute are mourning the loss of Professor Ioanna Kakoulli. Stavros Malas, in a moving post, acknowledged Kakoulli's significant contribution to the science of cultural heritage and archaeometry, emphasizing her ability to combine technology, history, and art conservation. Her work extended beyond academic research to the protection and promotion of historical heritage. The loss of Kakoulli is particularly painful as she was about to take over as director of the Center for Science and Technology in Archaeology at the Cyprus Institute. Malas expressed regret at the loss of a source of inspiration and international networking for the Institute. Her presence could have created new collaborations and strengthened research in the field of archaeology. Beyond her scientific career, Malas described Ioanna Kakoulli as a kind, gentle, hardworking, and modest person with a genuine interest in others. He recalled their acquaintance from school days, describing her as a "bright and sweet memory." Kakoulli maintained the purity of her soul throughout her life, from childhood to the peak of her academic career. Malas expressed his sincere condolences to Kakoulli's family, including her mother, Nadina, her siblings, Tatiana and Christoforos, and her partner, Giorgos Pagiatas. His post concluded with a tender phrase: "Ioanna, we will always remember you with love."
