Cyprus Installs Monitoring Stations Ahead of Akkuyu Nuclear Plant Operation

Cyprus has installed floating radiation monitoring stations in anticipation of the operation of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey in 2026. The House Environment Committee was informed about Cyprus's preparations for a potential accident. The committee president expressed concerns about radioactive waste leaks and the limited number of scientists who will staff the plant. The Geological Survey Department assured that the Mersin area is seismically safe, while the Department of Labor Inspection announced the expansion of the radiation detection system to include the sea with the installation of two additional stations.
