Cyprus Honors Andreas Mavrommatis – Moving Tributes to His Contribution

The funeral of distinguished Cypriot chef Andreas Mavrommatis took place in Agios Ioannis Pitsilias, attended by many admirers, relatives and friends. Andreas Mavrommatis passed away unexpectedly at the age of 69 last Saturday. The funeral service was presided over by the Archbishop of Cyprus George, while the Government was represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Konstantinos Kombos, and the former President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades. The Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the work and contribution of the deceased, emphasizing that Andreas Mavrommatis was a rare man with talent, hard work and global recognition. He pointed out that France, as the “metropolis of gastronomy,” recognized his contribution and that Mavrommatis highlighted Cypriot culture and history. The former President Anastasiades stated that Andreas Mavrommatis honored Cyprus and served his homeland with passion, while referring to the success of the Mavrommatis brothers and the relationships they built with French Presidents. He stressed that the deceased was a true ambassador of Cyprus abroad and was awarded the Medal of Excellent Contribution to the Cypriot Republic in 2018.
